Does iD Mobile have 4G Calling in 2021?

iD Mobile is owned by Dixons Carphone, and powered by Three. The network offers many great features but is 4G Calling one of them?

iD Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) operating in the UK. The carrier is owned by Dixons Carphone; iD Mobile is using the Three Network to provide 4G and 3G coverage to their customers. iD Mobile allows free access to 4G Calling on all their pay monthly tariffs and the same applies for iD Mobile WiFi Calling.

iD Mobile 4G Calling is a free service that lets you make and receive voice calls over Three’s 4G Network. If you’re in an area that’s covered by iD Mobile’s 4G Calling service and your smartphone supports this feature your call will be clearer than a typical mobile phone call. There’ll be a noticeable improvement in voice quality.

The network’s 4G Calling (VoLTE) service also provides faster connectivity and better indoor coverage by eliminating indoor blackspots. This means when making calls over 4G, the calls will connect faster than traditional methods that use 3G and 2G networks. It also means you’ll be able to make calls in more places, including inside your house where you may normally struggle to get 3G coverage.

Some networks advertise 4G Calling as VoLTE, Super-Voice, 4G Super Voice and you may see some other fancy names too. Keep in mind that there’s no difference between them, they’re exactly the same service with a different name for marketing purposes.

Unfortunately, iD Mobile doesn’t provide 2G coverage. This is because they use the Three Network, which doesn’t have an underlying 2G infrastructure. This means you can’t use a 2G-only smartphone with an iD Mobile SIM. You also won’t be able to fallback to 2G when you can’t get any 4G or 3G coverage. Three and their MVNOs are the only mobile networks that don’t offer 2G coverage in the UK.

All iD Mobile SIM only deals come with unlimited UK minutes and texts. You can choose between a 1 month rolling contract or get a 12-month contract. Either way, you’ll have to pass iD Mobile’s credit check first. You can also opt for a mobile phone contract, as the network’s parent company Dixons Carphones offers a large selection of handsets to choose from.

The provider offers inclusive roaming that allows you to roam like at home in 50 destinations across the world. 46 of these destinations are EU and EEA countries. The other four are Azerbaijan, Belarus, Macedonia and Kazakhstan.

If you sign up for a pay monthly plan, iD Mobile gives you a second chance to use your leftover data from the month before. Simply put, if you have 1GB of data remaining on your plan, it will be added to your next price plan and you’ll use your rolled over data first. It’s worth remembering that your leftover data only rolls over for one month. You don’t get to keep it after that, unlike Sky Mobile’s data rollover offer, which allows you to keep your unused data for up to 3 years.

It may not be unique, but iD Mobile also allows you to set a spend cap. With iD Mobile’s bill capping feature you can set a limit on additional charges on your plan to eliminate potential bill shocks. The spend cap can be set between £0 to £25; and you won’t be able to use your SIM for chargeable actions once you reach your cap.

iD Mobile’s unlimited data plan is quite budget friendly and we specifically recommend this option, if you’re looking to tether with your iD Mobile plan regularly. There are no speed restrictions or hidden fair usage limits on iD Mobile’s unlimited data plan.

Unfortunately, iD Mobile doesn’t offer 5G coverage at the moment. We’ll update this section when the network starts offering superfast 5G download speeds, but for the time being all we can say is iD Mobile will be using Three 5G and currently Three has the fastest 5G and the most 5G spectrum, as well as the widest 5G Coverage in the UK.
