Network Basics

Network Coverage & Data Speeds 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

BT Mobile Network CoverageBT Mobile runs on EE’s network which is one of the 4 larger MNO’s (Mobile Network Operators) in the UK, which means you will get the same speeds as an EE customer. You’ll be getting the best network coverage in the market with 99% population coverage for 4G and EE have committed to 95% geographical coverage by 2020. They are constantly leading the way with rolling out additional 4G network with Root Metrics giving them the award for best network coverage for 5 years running.

With BT Mobile, you will also be getting the best 4G speeds in the market. According to Open Signal’s 2018 testing, EE leads the way with average data speeds of 29 MB/s with their closest rival Three at 23 MB/s.

Voice Call Quality 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

BT Mobile Voice Call Quality

EE once again performed well in recent tests by P3 Comms, coming ahead of its competitors for voice call quality. The main reasons for tracking ahead is due to their audio quality and connection times, a result of their seamless switching between 4G and Wi-Fi calling. They also continue to invest in the growth and development of their 4G network so this is expected to further improve.

Unlike some of the other virtual networks that are piggybacking on other networks BT Mobile is taking advantage of 4G calling on EE’s network by proving access to all of their SIM and phone contract customers.

Tethering 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

BT Mobile Tethering

Tethering is turning your mobile device into a personal Wi-Fi hotspot which then gives the ability to connect other Wi-Fi enabled devices to the internet. This is sometimes limited by networks as it leads to heavy data usage, reducing the space on the network and slowing down the network for other customers.

For BT Mobile customers, tethering is not limited. You can use as much data as you like on other devices. One thing to note is that tethering usually leads to data being consumed much faster and we recommend checking BT Mobiles out of bundle pricing.

International Roaming 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

BT Mobile International RoamingWith the EU roaming regulation changes that came into effect in the summer of 2017 all UK network’s must now provide EU destinations inclusive of customer plans. This means 47 roaming destinations are included free of charge to BT Mobile customers. This is the norm so you aren’t getting any extra perks like you would with the likes of Three’s Go Roam proposition. Even EE, which BT Mobile runs on, has an additional 5 destinations where their pay monthly customers can roam and use their monthly bundles which includes USA & Australia.

Wi-Fi Calling & Wi-Fi Hotspots 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

BT Mobile WiFi Calling

Wi-Fi calling allows customers to place calls and send texts using wireless networks instead of using their 3G/4G network. This is a great perk if you are somewhere without mobile connection but have access to Wi-Fi.

BT Mobile have a good Wi-Fi calling proposition that is available to all their SIM, Pay Monthly and Family SIM customers – The only problem we found was that it isn’t compatible with all devices. We recommend checking out their website to confirm it will work on your device. Wi-Fi hotspots are now offered by some networks to provide customers public locations where they can save on data. BT Mobile absolutely smash it out of the park in this category with over 5 million plus hotspots in the UK and over 13 million abroad. This can lead to serious data savings when out in public spots like shopping centres and restaurants and while on holiday.

Spending Caps 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

BT Mobile Spending Caps

Spending caps are a great way to help prevent any bill shocks – these are common place in the mobile industry now and BT Mobile’s scheme is straight forward to use.

BT Mobile have an easy to use dashboard which provides the option to its pay monthly & SIM customers of setting a limit as low as £0 on their spending. They also provide the option to turn on and off things such as roaming and premium calls.

Multi Buy Discounts / Family Plans 5 out of 5 stars (5 / 5)

BT Mobile Multi Buy Discounts

Some networks are now offering customers discounts on any additional SIM or phone contract purchases they make to incentivise people to sign up their family & friends.

BT Mobile have one of the best offers on the market with their Family SIM offer. Each additional SIM you purchase comes at an extra discount – at the moment BT Mobile are offering 20% off each additional SIM you purchase and these SIM offers are all on 30 day rolling contracts so there is no commitment.

This provides an affordable, no strings attached offer to help you get the whole family online and help you manage all your contracts in one place.

Customer rewards 3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

BT Mobile Customer Rewards

Some networks are now offering customer perks to differentiate themselves from their competitors to help them attract or keep customers.

BT Mobile unfortunately doesn’t have a rewards apps such as O2 offer with O2 Priority & Three’s Wuntu App.

However, BT Mobile does offer discounts to their existing broadband customers. If you have a broadband account or you live in a household where someone has BT broadband you can get £5 a month off any SIM only or phone contract. A possible £60 saving over the course of a year!

Other Perks3 out of 5 stars (3 / 5)

BT Mobile Other Perks

With the mobile market becoming saturated with new networks popping up regularly, some of these operators are trying to differentiate themselves by offering other perks.

In terms of inclusive entertainment subscriptions BT Mobile offer customers on selected SIM or phone contracts access to the BT Sport App. If you have a deal with BT mobile for a SIM or phone contract with 6GB of data or more, then you can get free access to the BT sport app for as long as you remain on that plan.

With this you get access to sports on the BT Sport channel such as Premier League & Champions League games. This can lead to significant savings to customers, however it is only on mobile and doesn’t give you access to the TV channel.

Unfortunately, in terms of free data streaming BT Mobile doesn’t offer anything. One of the better free data streaming offers in the market is Three which offers free data on many popular apps such as Snapchat & Netflix.

Sim Deals & Phone Contracts

BT Mobile has 8 different SIM only deals available to customers which are all on 12 month contracts. These range in price from £8 a month to £35 a month.

All plans come with unlimited minutes and texts with the £8 a month plan starting at 500MB of data rising to the £35 plan which offers customers 40GB of data.

Any additional SIM’s through BT Mobile’s Family SIM offer, will get you 20% off a flexible 30 day plan. In terms of handset offers, BT Mobile ranges handsets from your budget devices all the way to your pricier flagships from Apple & Samsung. There is no PAYG available with BT Mobile.
