Summary

Voxi is an interesting new network offering unlimited social media usage on several popular apps such as WhatsApp & Instagram. Voxi customers benefit from Vodafone’s network with 99% population coverage for 4G with data speeds on average of 20 MB/s. With unlimited tethering and Amazon vouchers for referring friends Voxi looks like it ticks a lot of the big boxes but unfortunately Voxi’s 29 or under rule means if you are 30 or over the network isn’t available to you.

Network Basics

Network Coverage & Data Speeds (4 / 5)

Voxi is powered by the Vodafone network, Voxi SIM customers will get 99% population coverage for 4G, 3G & 2G. If you have ever used a Vodafone SIM you can expect to get the same level of network coverage for Voxi. We recommend using the network coverage checker on Voxi’s website before you purchase a SIM.

Using Open Signals 2018 tests of network data speeds, Voxi customers can expect to get 4G speeds of around 20 MB/s. Vodafone have really picked up their speeds by increasing the number of 4G sites they have. They are still third behind Three and EE but closing the gap with Three at 23 MB/s and EE leading the way with an average data speed of 29 MB/s.

Voice Call Quality (4 / 5)

With Vodafone’s network powering Voxi we need to look at their performance in recent tests. Per P3 communications recent tests Vodafone ranked second only to EE. Vodafone showed good results in larger cities in terms of voice call quality and drop rates, however fell short in small towns and on the road.

However one thing to consider is that Voxi doesn’t have access to 4G calling and with no tests yet done on any of the smaller virtual networks we can only use the Vodafone results as a proxy.

Tethering (5 / 5)

Tethering is turning your mobile device into a personal Wi-Fi hotspot which in turn allows your data to be used by other Wi-Fi devices to access the internet.

This is sometimes limited by networks as it leads to heavy data usage and reducing the space on the network and slowing down the network for other customers.

Voxi however have no issue with offering tethering to their customers with customers able to use their data by turning their mobile device into a Wi-Fi hotspot. The great perk of unlimited social media usage is extended to tethering if you are using social media applications on other devices.

We recommend looking at the cost of any additional data purchases as tethering usually leads to data usage being used up a lot faster.

International Roaming (3 / 5)

With the EU roaming regulation changes that came into effect in the summer of 2017 all UK network’s must now provide EU destinations inclusive in customers plans. This means 48 roaming destinations are included free of charge to Voxi customers.

Beyond this you won’t have any additional destinations included such as offered by Vodafone or with Three’s Go Roam scheme. However unlimited social media usage is extended to when you go abroad, so you can still snap your holiday pictures and share them on your inclusive social media platforms as much as you want.

If you do use up your monthly data, Voxi offers a PAYG scheme for their data which can be pricey, we recommend looking at the Voxi site before you go out of bundle abroad.

Wi-Fi Calling & Wi-Fi Hotspots (1 / 5)

Wi-Fi calling allows customers to place calls and send texts using Wi-Fi networks instead of using their 3G/4G network. This is a great perk if you are somewhere without mobile connection but have access to Wi-Fi.

Voxi, like many of its low-cost rivals does not offer Wi-Fi calling to its customers. We strongly recommend using their network coverage checker to ensure you get good coverage at home and at work so you won’t run into any issues.

Wi-Fi hotspots are also not offered by Voxi to its customers. Despite this, many public places such as shopping centres, restaurants and bars are now offering free Wi-Fi to customers so we don’t think this perk is make or break. If you are looking to maximise saving your data through hotspots we recommend checking out BT Mobile.

Data Rollover (1 / 5)

Data rollover means you can roll your unused data from one month to the next. For e.g. if you have a 2GB plan and only use 1GB the following month you will have 3GB as the extra 1GB would be rolled over.

Unfortunately, in this category Voxi tracks behind it’s other low cost competitors – Voxi doesn’t offer any data rollover to its customers & any data you don’t use before your month expires is lost.

This is limited compared to some of the other data rollover plans on the market with SMARTY offering customers money off their plans for unused data.

Multi Buy Discounts/ Family Plans (1 / 5)

Some networks are now offering customers discounts on any additional SIM or phone contract purchases they make to incentivise people to sign up their family & friends.

Voxi only offers single customer deals for their SIMs. This is to be expected, with their price point between £10-£20, they already have very competitive SIM offers. However, you can still benefit from referring a friend or family member with Voxi offering their customers a £10 Amazon voucher for themselves and a friend when they join.

A lot of the larger networks are now offering customer’s discounted family plans but you may find Voxi still out competes them at their low price point.

Customer Rewards (3 / 5)

Some networks are now offering customer perks to differentiate themselves from their competitors to help them attract or keep customers.

Voxi doesn’t have any strong deals such as those offered by O2 priority or via Three’s Wuntu App with their only customer offer being the £10 Amazon voucher offer when referring friends to join and purchase a SIM.

Beyond this you are limited in terms of the perks you will get. However, Voxi have offered double and triple data to customers since they launched.

Other Perks (3 / 5)

With the mobile market becoming increasingly saturated with new networks popping up, some of these operators are trying to differentiate themselves by offering other perks.

Inclusive entertainment subscriptions & free data schemes are the typical offers available to customers.

There are no free subscriptions available to customers when they purchase a Voxi SIM. One of the more popular offers is from EE which provide inclusive access to the BT Sport app and Apple Music for all pay monthly customers.

We rate Voxi’s unlimited social media data usage as one of the strongest offers in the market in this category. If you are using WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, Pinterest and Viber on your Voxi SIM you will not incur any data usage.

This is the same if you use these applications when you are tethering onto another device and when you roam in the EU.

Sim Deals & Phone Contracts

Voxi currently have 3 SIM only plans available to choose from which range from £10 to £20 in cost. These are paid up front and work like a rolling 1 month contract but are truly PAYG. These all offer Endless Social Media & unlimited minutes & texts and they are currently are on offer with triple data until the 31st March with the following data bands:

£10 plan – 6 GB Data Allowance

£15 plan – 15GB Data Allowance

£20 plan – 45GB Data Allowance

Voxi have now also introduced handsets with interest free financing options with devices ranging from low end devices all the way up to your Apple & Samsung flagships. Voxi allows you to separate out the cost of the handset and the SIM so if you aren’t happy with your experience on Voxi you can cancel your SIM plan but keep paying for your device.
