Vodafone Unlimited Data Plans

In the UK, Vodafone’s unlimited data plans come with unlimited UK minutes & texts, and these deals start from £22/month. The prices differ for each type of unlimited data plan Vodafone offers. Their prices also differ depending on the length of contract. Vodafone’s unlimited data plans have no fair usage limits, so they’re truly unlimited, unlike some other networks’ unlimited data deals.

You can add an entertainment package for £7/month to Unlimited and Unlimited Max plans, provided you’re signing up for a 12-month or 24-month contract. Entertainment Packages include YouTube Premium, Amazon Prime Video and Spotify memberships. You can only choose one at a time.

All unlimited pay monthly plans automatically make you eligible for VeryMe Rewards, which is Vodafone’s rewards programme. These rewards include free coffees and discounts at high street retailers, a great benefit of VeryMe rewards is that they become more personalised the more you use them.

These price plans include 5G and 4G coverage, with a maximum speed of 2Mbps for Unlimited Lite, and 10Mbps for Unlimited. 5G isn’t all about super fast download speeds so you’ll get to benefit from low latency and some other perks. You’ll need to be in an area covered by Vodafone’s 5G network to access and you must also have a 5G Ready handset.

The network’s mobile app is called My Vodafone and it’s quite useful for managing your account on-the-go, checking your allowances and bills, and getting help from the network’s customer service whenever you need it.You can download My Vodafone from the App Store or Google Play Store after getting your plan.

You can also upgrade your phone without having to wait till your contract runs out. The network lets you upgrade your device after six months into your contract.

Vodafone Unlimited Lite

The network’s Unlimited Lite plan comes with a speed restriction. If you’re an Unlimited Lite customer, your download speeds are restricted to 2Mbps max. It’s quite slow for streaming high quality videos on the likes of Netflix & YouTube. In fact, you may even struggle to load some websites.

Vodafone’s Unlimited Lite is only good for regularly browsing , catching up on social media and streaming music. When the maximum download speed is limited to 2Mbps, it’s hard to justify going for an unlimited data plan as it would be almost impossible to rack up large amounts of data usage. Unlimited Lite plans aren’t eligible for entertainment packs either.

This unlimited plan lets you use your UK allowances in 51 destinations across Europe, but you’re subject to a roaming cap of 25GB/ month in these destinations. If you’re travelling outside of Europe, you can pay £6 a day and use your UK allowance in Vodafone’s Roam-further destinations. The network will only charge you on the days you use your handset.

At this price point we’d recommend checking out SMARTY’s unlimited data plan, as the network doesn’t enforce any speed restrictions and there are no credit checks since their deals work on a prepaid basis. You can read our SMARTY Review to learn more about their commitment-free and competitively priced SIM Only offers. SMARTY is powered by the Three Network, but their SIM Only plans don’t have 5G Coverage yet.

Vodafone Unlimited

Vodafone’s ‘Unlimited’ plan also comes with a download speed cap. The ‘Unlimited’ plan has access to both 5G and 4G, with a maximum download speed of 10Mbps.

This plan is ideal for watching shows and movies on the go as well as everything Unlimited Lite is good for. However, 10Mbps is still not great if you want to stream full HD content, as you might experience a few hiccups every now and then. It’s also far from ideal, if you want to tether to another device. A maximum download speed of 10Mbps won’t be able to handle 4K streaming.

You can roam freely in 51 European destinations with this plan, but you’re subject to a fair usage cap of 25GB per month.

This is a good SIM Only plan for online gaming, provided you get either decent 4G coverage or you’re in an area with Vodafone’s 5G network.

We think Three has some of the best 5G SIM Only plans in the UK at the moment. The network has competitively priced unlimited data plans, which come with 5G at no extra cost and great roaming options. Check out our Three Review to learn more or read our Vodafone vs Three comparison and find out which operator is better for you.

Vodafone Unlimited Max

This is the best unlimited data plan Vodafone offers to their customers. Unlimited Max plans will always get you the fastest download speeds available. You will have unlimited access to Vodafone’s 5G network, provided you have a 5G ready device to go with your plan.

There are no speed restrictions or data caps on Vodafone Unlimited Max plan, however, commercial use of this plan is prohibited. You can check out our Best Business SIM Only deals guide if you’re interested in a business contract.

The Unlimited Max plan is ideal for all kinds of internet activity, including 4K streaming on YouTube, Netflix and any other video streaming app. You can also game without having to worry about your ping, if you’re getting decent 4G coverage from Vodafone in your area.

This unlimited plan also includes the best international roaming deal in the UK. You can take this plan abroad and use your UK allowances in 81 destinations across the world thanks to the network’s Global Roaming Plus feature.

If you’re looking for a commitment-free unlimited data plan with 5G on Vodafone’s network, we can recommend VOXI. The carrier is owned and powered by Vodafone, providing maximum flexibility to their customers. You can read our VOXI Review or have a look at our VOXI vs Vodafone comparison to discover more!

Unlimited Big Value Bundle with 5G

Vodafone also offers an unlimited Big Value Bundle, if you don’t want to go through a credit check, but want to experience 5G data speeds and unlimited data. The deal is quite expensive at £50.

You can roam in 51 European destinations with a 25GB of data roaming cap with this pay as you go bundle. You’re also eligible for Vodafone VeryMe rewards. The carrier also offers a data rollover scheme for their pay as you go customers, but as you can guess, when you’re using the unlimited data bundle, you won’t be saving any data at the end of the month.

Network Coverage & Speeds

2G, 3G & 4G Coverage

Vodafone customers with unlimited data plans get over 99% population 4G coverage. However, what matters more is a carrier’s landmass coverage, and Vodafone has the second most 4G coverage in the UK, following closely behind EE.

As for data speeds, Vodafone’s average 4G download speeds are around 22.5Mbps and the network offers upload speeds around 8.5Mbps. Keep in mind that Unlimited Lite and Unlimited plans are subject to speed caps, respectively at 2Mbps and 10Mbps. Unlimited Max, however, will always get you the fastest data speeds available. You can have a look at our in-depth Vodafone Review to learn more about the network’s coverage.

As stated above, EE is still the fastest 4G mobile network in the UK and they also have the most 4G coverage. You can check out our extensive EE Review to discover more about the network and their SIM Only deals.

Please make sure to check a network’s coverage map before you sign up for a price plan, even if it’s EE or Vodafone. Cancelling your mobile contract is usually not easy, and you might end up having to pay a penalty fee.

Vodafone's Network Coverage

5G Coverage

Vodafone has the least 5G coverage in the UK with 57 cities and towns, but the network’s 5G is also available in 193 more locations across Germany, Spain, Italy and Ireland.

The network’s 5G download speeds are around 152Mpbs according to OOKLA’s October 2020 speed test results. This means Vodafone has the third fastest 5G network in the country at the moment.

Vodafone also offers 5G mobile broadband plans to their customers, and you can still use their 5G routers even when you’re not in an area with Vodafone’s 5G since the router can pick up 4G signals too.

International Roaming

Vodafone’s Unlimited Lite, Unlimited and Unlimited Big Value Bundle (PAYG) all allow you to use your UK allowances in 51 destinations across Europe.

The Unlimited Max plan comes with Vodafone’s Global Roaming Plus feature and ups this number to 81 destinations across the world.

A 25GB fair use policy applies to all Vodafone unlimited data plans, meaning you can’t use more than 25GB of your UK data in a 30 day period when you are roaming. If you do, extra charges will apply.

As for making international calls we recommend checking out our Lebara Mobile Review and Lycamobile Review.

Tethering

Vodafone’s unlimited data plans lets you tether freely, but of course you’re not allowed to use your price plans for commercial purposes. Unlimited Lite is far from ideal for tethering given the restricted download speeds. The Unlimited plan is also not ideal for tethering to other devices, but at least it gives you more speed to share.

On the other hand both Unlimited Max and Unlimited Big Value plans are solid options if you want to share your mobile data with other compatible Wi-Fi devices, since there are no speed restrictions or data caps on these two plans.

4G Calling & Wi-Fi Calling

Vodafone’s pay monthly unlimited data plans include 4G Calling & Wi-Fi Calling at no extra cost, but the pay as you go unlimited bundle doesn’t have them.

4G Calling allows you to make and receive calls over a network’s 4G service. This feature also eliminates most indoor blackspots and you can also use 4G data speeds while you’re on a call. If both individuals on a call have 4G Calling the connection will also be higher quality.

Wi-Fi Calling utilises an available Wi-Fi connection with internet access to keep your handset connected, even if you’re not getting any regular phone signal.

If you’re looking for a more flexible SIM Only plan with these two great features, we recommend checking out iD Mobile. The network offers monthly rolling plans with competitive prices and they all come with 4G Calling & Wi-Fi Calling. Check out our iD Mobile Review to discover more!

Wi-Fi Hotspots

Vodafone customers don’t get any free Wi-Fi hotspots, but they can still use O2’s free WiFi services or Sky Mobile’s The Cloud for free. All you have to do is create an account for the service you want and enjoy their free Wi-Fi wherever it’s available.

If you want to save data by using free Wi-Fi when you’re away from home, we’d suggest checking out our BT Mobile Review and our Virgin Mobile Review. Both networks have millions of exclusive Wi-Fi hotspots across the UK and abroad.

Half Cooked’s Overall Breakdown

Even if you’re just going to browse the web, stream some music on Spotify or catch up on social media Vodafone’s Unlimited Lite plan feels like a bad choice. A maximum download speed of 2Mbps is really poor these days and there are a number of cheaper heavy data plans available in the market.

The Unlimited data plan is okay. Being limited to a maximum of 10Mbps is also not great, it’s still workable unless you’re looking to tether or stream 4K content. Plus with all the added benefits and entertainment options the Unlimited plan justifies its price.

Unlimited Max is one of the best unlimited data plans in the UK. It’s a bit expensive, but it comes with amazing features, and it also has the best roaming scheme. We love it and it will only get better as Vodafone’s 5G coverage continues to expand.

Big Value Unlimited Bundle is a commitment-free option, but it’s extremely expensive. If you’re planning to use it on a regular basis, you might as well get a pay monthly unlimited data plan from Vodafone and save money in the long run.
