Who is VOXI?
VOXI is a low-cost mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and it is powered by Vodafone’s network. When it first launched in the UK it was aimed at under 30’s, but after a very successful run and interest from older age groups, the network was expanded to be available to everyone.
VOXI sacrifices many premium features its parent network -Vodafone- offers to provide cheap and flexible plans. There are only four tariffs to choose from on VOXI, however, the operator proposes a unique scheme called ‘Endless Social Media’ which covers the seven main social media apps including WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
- Endless social media usage.
- Flexible 30-day rolling plans.
- Unrestricted tethering.
- Amazon gift cards from £10 to £20.
- No data rollover.
- Limited plan options and online customer support.
- No Wi-Fi Calling or 4G Calling.

Plans & Pricing
SIM Only Deals
The network offers four different deals to choose from and they are all pay monthly tariffs with no strings attached. They last for 30 days and you can switch between them, month to month, as you please. You may also cancel your deal at any time, which makes VOXI a flexible operator.
All VOXI deals include the ‘endless social media’ perk, which basically allows you to use Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Twitter, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Instagram, Pinterest and Viber without burning through your data. The only exception to this happens, if you completely run out of data, but even then you can get the ‘Extra Data’ add-on and continue using the endless social media feature of the carrier.
VOXI also provides ‘Music Pass’ and ‘Video Pass’ add-ons. You’ll need to sign in to your account in order to add these passes to your plans. With Video Pass you can watch Netflix, YouTube, Amazon, Disney Life, My5, tvP and UKTV Play without using your data. Music Pass will allow you the same benefit, but on Spotify, Apple Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Prime Music, Amazon Music Unlimited, SoundCloud and Napster.
Pay As You Go
You can use VOXI as a traditional pay as you go service, but considering the network’s not so wallet friendly rates we don’t recommend it. Another downside is, VOXI doesn’t allow customers to use data if they pick the traditional PAYG alternative, you’ll only be able to make and receive phone calls & text messages.
The operator fundamentally works on a pay as you go basis though, as you can opt out of any VOXI monthly plans any time you want. A VOXI SIM card remains active for 270 days since the last chargeable activity. The operator warns you at the 180 days mark, stating that in 90 days your phone number will be deleted and your SIM will be deactivated.
Pay Monthly Phones
VOXI has decent handset options, but the length of a phone contract is six months longer than regular deals. The network’s mobile phone contract length is 30 months long, but you are allowed to pay larger chunks and cut your contract to a shorter length. You also have to get a SIM deal with your phone, but the SIM plan on VOXI can be cancelled after 30 days.
Network Coverage & Speeds
2G, 3G & 4G Coverage
VOXI is powered by Vodafone, this means the carrier has exactly the same network coverage and data speeds as its parent network. Vodafone is the oldest operator in the country and the mobile network offers over 99% population coverage. It also has the second most landmass coverage in the UK, being behind only EE.
Vodafone’s average download speed is around 23.0Mbps and it’s upload speed around 8.2Mbps. The download speed peaks around 60Mbps and can be as low as 4Mbps. VOXI shows similar speed test results, but dips only down to 7Mbps at worst. Though this is mainly because some Vodafone plans are speed limited.
Looking at Opensignal’s April 2020 network tests; in regards to data speeds we see Vodafone in second place again with 23.4Mbps average download speed and 8.2Mbps average upload speed. VOXI wasn’t individually tested, but as stated above the results would be virtually identical.
If you want the best 4G coverage and the fastest download speeds in the UK, you’d have to go with EE or one of the networks powered by the EE Network. However, whichever network seems to suit you best, never forget to check their coverage map before making your final decision!
5G is the newest and the fastest generation of mobile networks and VOXI customers can benefit from it too, but only with an ‘Endless Data Plan’. VOXI, being a sub-brand of Vodafone, offers the very same 5G data speeds and network coverage as Vodafone. This means VOXI customers can get 5G coverage in 44 locations across the UK.
VOXI is one of the very few mobile virtual network operators with a 5G plan among BT Mobile, Tesco Mobile and Sky Mobile.
Voice Call Quality
Given how Vodafone is ranked second according to the most recent network tests done by umlaut and Opensignal, we can say that VOXI also comes in joint second place when it comes to voice call quality.
Vodafone is also noted as the most improved network in regards to voice calls, meaning VOXI has improved too. While the two networks are closing the gap, the top spot still belongs to the EE Network.
Wi-Fi Calling & 4G Calling
With Wi-Fi Calling, one can make & receive calls with a Wi-Fi connection using their phone number. This is especially useful when your cellular service isn’t available or you’re having poor connection.
4G Calling (also known as VoLTE) lets you make and receive calls over a 4G network. It’s no different than making a regular phone call, but instead of using 2G or 3G signals, your network uses 4G. As a result, your calls connect faster and become much clearer.
Sadly though, VOXI doesn’t have either of these voice call quality improving perks. Vodafone makes sure if you want these two features, you’ve gotta sign up for an eligible Vodafone plan.
Unfortunately there are no free Wi-Fi Hotspots in the UK for VOXI customers. Even if you’re a Vodafone customer, you’ll only have free Wi-Fi access on the London underground. Vodafone customers used to have access to BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots, but as of 30 April 2020 this deal ceased to exist.
Tethering or using your device as a personal hotspot means sharing your handset’s data with other devices such as smartphones, laptops, tablets etc. These devices will connect to the internet through your phone’s data connection.
You are allowed to tether freely on VOXI and there are no fair usage limits specifically targeted at personal hotspots. You can simply tether to as many devices as you need and the only data limit to tethering is your own data allowance.
VOXI’s ‘Endless Social Media’ perk can be used by other devices as long as they use the social media applications and not a web browser. However, if you’re tethering to devices such as a video game console, TV, Chromecast, Roku or Fire TV Stick, you’ll be using data from your general data allowance.
Since the EU roaming regulation changes which happened back in 2017, all the mobile network operators in the UK must provide free access to all EU roaming destinations.
VOXI’s Europe Zone roaming is available in 48 countries, including Switzerland and Turkey. Given how both these countries are often not included in roaming deals it’s a big plus.
Calls, texts and data will work just like they do in the UK, including the endless social media perk. VOXI’s endless data plan is also subject to a roaming cap of 25GB/month.
You can continue using your data while roaming, even if you finish up your monthly allowance. But be warned as roaming on VOXI can become really pricey, when you venture outside your allowances. You can check VOXI’s rates here.
Endless Social Media
VOXI’s ‘Endless Social Media’ feature is unique to the network and at Half Cooked we rate it very highly. Endless social media stands for unlimited social media usage on Snapchat, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Facebook Messenger. As long as you have some data left in your plan, you can use any of these social media apps without eating through your general data allowance
Endless Data Plan
This is VOXI’s unlimited data tariff and it comes with 5G coverage in 44 cities and towns in the UK. However, this deal is priced at £30/month and you can get an unlimited data deal on Three Mobile for less & with more additional perks.
SMARTY, another low-cost mobile virtual network, also offers an unlimited data plan for only £20, but you’ll only get 4G coverage. Make sure to read our VOXI vs SMARTY review if you want to discover the differences between the two low-cost operators.
If you like spending a lot of time on social media apps, you might want to check out Half Cooked’s best unlimited social media & streaming networks guide.
Endless Calls & Texts
All VOXI plans come with unlimited calls, texts and picture messages (MMS) to UK numbers.
There are only four different VOXI tariffs to choose from and they only last for 30 calendar days. When you finish your plan, depending on your needs you can switch to a new VOXI deal, no strings attached.
While this is a great perk to have, it’s not a unique proposition as most other MVNOs also offer such flexibility. At Half Cooked, we think giffgaff’s goodybags are still the most flexible deals on the UK’s mobile market. We’d recommend you to read our VOXI vs giffgaff review if flexibility is a key factor for you.
Friends with Benefits
You can get up to £20 in Amazon gift cards on VOXI, if you invite your friend to join VOXI. Plus this will also be matched for your friend that joins. VOXI allows you to invite as many friends as you like and the larger their VOXI data plans are, the larger the Amazon gift cards you receive will be.
